Visiting Mirate is always a fun experience because once you make your way up and around the initial staircase, you'll find yourself looking at a gorgeous open-air space with multiple floors, 2 bars, and loads of foliage. This isn't our first time here and what keeps us coming back is their margaritas! If you're a margarita fan and like it a little spicy, this will be your new go-to spot! Here's what we ordered: --El Guero (aguachile, nopales granita, coconut, avocado washed don fulano fuerte) --El Taquero (pineapple, lacto chorizo, lemon, chamomile honey, mirate x mal bien espadin)

I mean, and I really mean it, when I say - Mirate has got to be the best restaurant I've had in all of 2024 and we are only halfway through the year. I tagged along with my friend group who wanted to try North America's top 50 Best Bars (Mirate is #46) I didn't know anything before committing to this dining experience, because I am not a drinker and I didn't care. However, I am compelled to write this review after the mindblowingly amazing experience that I just had. Reservations at 8:30pm. Didn't get seated until 9:00pm. Once seated, the food came out quick after you order. The drinks were expensive and sucks for the price you pay ($8-$20) so this review is not for the drinks if you haven't caught on yet. We ordered: The Short Rib and Marrow Birria - this is probably the sole reason why I am writing this review. This was amazing dish, the waiter said it had 9 servings, perfect for 4 people but in reality, it could probably feed 6 people if not more. The short rib comes out in a large bowl with birra sauce and condiments (beans, cheese, spices) all surrounding the meat. The bone marrow was lacking in marrow but the sizing of the Short Rib was not. Honestly just think of it as a huge chunk of steak because you have to cut it yourself to put it in the tortillas and scoop the Birria sauce to make your own Birria tacos. The meat was super juicy and the Birria sauce and condiments packed a very flavorful taste yet it does not overwhelm the taste of the meat at all. Pan De Maiz - We thought this was just cornbread but this more like... cornbread pudding/pie? There's a huge scoop of butter on top of the cornbread and the cornbread was soft on the inside but had a solid texture in the outside. And.. it had actual bits of corn that you can taste and chew into with every bite as well as bit of a very mild spicy kick to it to add to the flavor. Yucca Sucias - all I heard was yucca fries when we ordered it, but it is so much more when you bite into it. I don't even know what I was tasting but all in know was that it was a lot of interesting flavors that worked well with the fries. It also packs a bit of a spicy when you least expect it! Lastly, we ordered the fried chicken taco and pork belly taco. They are nothing to rave about. I had to wonder why they were #1-#3 most popular on Yelp in terms of picture/mentions and I deducted that it's because not everyone has a party big enough that wants to share the Short Rib Special which is a huge shame! The Short Rib with the fries and cornbread was also enough for 4 people and possibly more. Don't get the individual tacos. Alright, enough about the food. The atmosphere was amazing! There were two stories and they made it very exotic with the lighting, although the dim lighting sucks for photo taking. Parking also sucks, residential parking only unless you want to valley at the front or pay $8 for a parking lot close by.

This place was everything and more. The ambiance and great for large groups but reserved ahead! They accomodated us perfectly as I was worried I only booked for 6 people but was able to call and add 3 more guests but they are strict on time reservations because it's super busy on the weekends! You can get lost and I love the ambiance and design of each room. Food was plated beautifully. Taste is good some of the food was salty like the steak. The pibil was yummy but super spicy! Everything else was good and the drinks were pretty strong but good.

Pleasantly surprised with how much we loved the place! Sometimes I am skeptical if a place might be hyped on TikTok or for the ambiance... but we loved the food! The ceviche was surprisingly SPICY! Plenty of options for pescatarian and vegetarian diners as well.

The vibes at Mirate are *Chef's kiss! Located on Vermont in Los Feliz, all you can see is a noisy sports bar from the street. Find the hidden staircase and climb your way into a gorgeous open-air space. With 3 floors, several bars, and string lighting to set the mood, there is a lot to take in. However, the star of the ambiance is definitely the tree towering in the center of it all. You almost feel like you're in a luxurious tree house. Arrived to meet some friends for my birthday celebration. We were seated at a super cozy round table with plush, body enveloping pillows. I swear we could have napped with how cozy we were. We ordered a couple drinks and guacamole while we decided on meals. Our drinks arrived (we probably tried one of each drink that I can't even recall the names) with the guac and several tostadas to share. Best guacamole I've had in a while. We ended up requesting another order because we loved it so much. We were also provided with extra tostadas for the leftover guac on the table. We finished every single drop of it.. yum! My friend had raved about Mirate's carne asada plate so I knew right away that's what I needed in my life. The steak was cooked to me preference, medium well, smothered in chimichurri, and loaded with fries. My husabnd ordered the burger, which he enjoyed. And my son is still raving about the pork belly tacos. Said it's the best thing he's ever eaten. We ended the night with mezcal tasting, complete with fried crickets and citrus. So tasty! **Mirate is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. Not ideal for a large family with kids but great for groups and date night. I believe they have a brunch menu as well.. Who's in for day drinking?! **Parking is a little tricky but you can find street parking here and there if you don't mind circling a bit. Valet parking is also available up the street. Keeping Mirate on deck for date night rotation. Will be back FOR SURE!

This place is an absolute gem. Having just opened over a year ago, I sure hope it stays around for a long while. There is valet parking or if you just go up the street there is metered street parking for an hour or a public lot nearby on Vermont and Kingswell. Upon walking inside the restaurant, it was absolutely beautiful! Reminded me of tulum, plants everywhere, the vibes were just immaculate. We also had a view of the Observatory from where we sat. Staff was super friendly and helpful with everything. Lindsay was our waiter and she was the best. Thank you! Food was amazing! Also they have a huge book of drinks/ specializing in Mezcals. My favorite dishes - Cauliflower Ceviche - 5/5 So fresh, tangy, every single ingredient in this ceviche was so intentionally put and had so much crunch and flavor - perfect pairing with the tostadas. I highly recommend! Pan De Maiz - 5/5 Jalapeño cornbread w/ cheddar cheese and whipped honey butter. YOU MUST GET THIS!! If you love cornbread, then you have to try this. Loved it and should have ordered second. Comes out nice and warm. Fried Chicken Tacos - 5/5 A burst of flavor with each bite. The chicken was nice and crispy but still so juicy. This will make you want to order seconds!! Carne Asada Con Papas - 3.5/5 I thought this was ok. I don't think I was a fan of the Chimichurri sauce that was on top of the steak. I'd pass on this in the future Churro Donas - 4/5 The churros were good however I didn't really find the Dulce de leche sauce to be that memorable. I'll definitely be back for brunch! Enjoy!

I hadn't been to Mirate in a while and I was excited to return! Unfortunately, the service and food quality have gone down a bit. It's no longer a 5-star restaurant in my opinion. The ambiance is still great, and the drinks are fantastic, but I can't hold it at the same level as I did in the past. Drinks: I highly recommend El Guero if you like tequila or a spicy margarita type of flavor & El Yaki is great if you enjoy mezcal. Food: Yucca Sucias might be the best thing on the menu now, but the Tricolor Cauliflower Ceviche was pretty good too. Skip the desserts, very disappointing! Food: 4/5 (very fish dependent) Drinks: 5/5 Service: 3/5 Value: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 4.5/5 Overall: 4/5

Climbing up and down the stairs reminded me of the line for Indiana Jones lol. When we first arrived, we were confused because we saw the bright bar but we saw the sign to head up the stairs for the restaurant. Once we checked in, we walked across their bar area and back down to their patio/outdoor area and it a lovely day for dinner out. Their drink menu was extensive! I wish I could have more time to study it but i went with the Infante Margarita. Super yummy and got a good buzz lol. We shared: Kampachi Aguachilie Tatemeado (highly recommend!) Fried Chicken Taco (a big serving of chicken) Pork Belly Taco (super thiccccc slice of Pork belly) Yucca Sucias (GET THESE!!) Our servers were really friendly and we can't wait to come back! Parking: Valet is available and street parking if you don't mind walking + parallel parking
